Blanche’s sister Virginia comes for a visit. Blanche has always hated her so she’s not looking forward to seeing her. She and Virginia have lunch at the house and begin arguing as always.
They meet for dinner where Virginia breaks the news that she’s dying of renal failure. She came to ask Blanche for a kidney. Blanche goes back and forth with the decision before ultimately deciding that she’ll give her a kidney; and the two finally put aside their lifelong hated of each other.
