Dorothy has been tutoring Mario, a very special student who has a true love for learning. He writes a beautiful story about his first night in The United States. Dorothy enters his story in a district contest and it wins. They throw a surprise party for Mario but the joy is short lived. An immigration officer takes Mario away on suspicion that Mario is in the country illegally. Rose apparently loses Blanche’s earrings. She looks all over the house but can’t find them. To make up for losing the earrings, Rose volunteers to be Blanche’s personal ‘wiedenfrugen,’ or personal servant.

But we’d later find out that it was Blanche herself who misplaced the earrings, along with something else she borrowed from Rose. Rose unloads on Blanche and Blanche eventually becomes Rose’s personal vieden frugen. Unfortunately, Mario is sent back to his country and has to leave the following day. Dorothy vows to do everything in her power to get Mario back to The United States as soon as she can.
