Blanche is repeatedly stood up by her boyfriend. She realizes he’s anything but decent but is happy to settle for him rather than kill herself looking for the perfect man. After being stood up yet again, she meets a man named John Quinn at the bar. He was stood up as well. They get along very well. And even though they both vowed to give up dating for the time being, they agree to go out anyway. John comes to the house. There’s something Blanche didn’t realize at the bar. John is blind. Despite several unfortunate slips of the tongue, they seem to have a great time. Rose and Dorothy help coach a kids football team. The team has struggled all season. Their star player is underweight and often can’t play. The team needs him to have any kind of chance. Rose tries different ideas to get him to make weight. But Rose and Dorothy both end up sick and Sophia takes charge. Sophia comes though in the end. She gives him a massive meatball and pepper sandwich to help him put on the weight so he can play. Unfortunately he gets a cramp and he had to sit out the rest of the game. But they still win it.

Blanche’s ex calls her up and she agrees to go out with him. Rose and Dorothy are shocked. They don’t understand why Blanche would throw away such a great relationship like the one she’s having with John. She says it will never work because she’s blind. But she later admits that his blindness wasn’t the reason in and of itself. Blanche’s real concern was that his blindness took away the one thing Blanche said she could always count on, her looks. But that doesn’t matter to John. She couldn’t understand what it is he found attractive about her. John explains that she makes her laugh and is great fun to be with. The whole time she was with her shallow boyfriend, she was miserable and wanted to be with John. She apologizes to him and the two agree to get together the following week.
