Sophia takes the money the rest of the girls have saved up to invest and buys a boxer. Sophia says his fight has a guaranteed purse and they will make a good amount of money on the deal. Dorothy checks it out and everything is valid. They get even more excited when they find out the purse increases if Pepe wins. One night, the girls discover that Pepe is gone. They go through his things and go to the only address that was in his bag. They discover that Pepe is a masterful violinist who is set to audition for a prestigious music school. He vows that he will fight and the girls will get their money back because he needs the purse in case he’s accepted. His teacher begs the girls not to make him fight but Sophia rejects that plea.
The girls are conflicted. They don’t want to jeopardize Pepe’s chances by risking a injury to his hands. So they come up with the idea of Pepe throwing the fight. After his opponent taunts him, Pepe goes to start the fight and is knocked out at the first punch. He goes for his audition but can no longer remember the piece he’s supposed to play. The admissions panel won’t allow him to return. The girls remind him of a heartfelt speech he made earlier. He makes the same speech and is accepted into the school’s drama program.
